Hi I'm Samantha,
I'm an emerging painter who finds harmony in pigment and texture. Occasionally, I dip my toes into literary waters, although I wouldn’t call melself a writer, more an artist who loves the shape of language and the fluidity of translation. Living on Ngunnawal/Ngambri Country in Canberra, I'm fuelled by a desire to repurpose objects into environments. I fixate on translating everyday objects (often designed to be discarded after a single use) into textural marks, unburdened by excess and liberated through muted-earthy colour palettes. Within my Art Practice, I engage with core concepts of value and the root of aesthetics

I try to encourage viewers to engage with with ‘the seen’ and ‘the felt'. Painted subject matter, to me, doesn’t exist to be simply looked at. They act as stimuli for: stories, ideas, beliefs, and images to be reimagined. In response to overconsumption, I'm drawn to paint: antique, vintage, handcrafted and upcycled subject matter.
